Mark McGwire ~ Chalk 1999

A year after McGwire surpassed Maris’ record, my boredom found me eyeing a newspaper clipping I had saved and a large piece of red art paper. With nothing more than white chalk (and a little bit of black), I created the above in one afternoon.  I still have the clipping and I still respect McGwire’s ability to swing the bat. Regardless of his steroid use or the reasons why, he always had the gift to hit the ball as hard and as far as he could, which was quite a bit farther than needed most times.

Shark (Acrylics) ~ 1998

This was one of those weird student projects that was meant to push you out of your comfort zone. You had to take a piece of paper, cut it up and reassemble it in a different formation. When the glued dried, you had to paint something on it. As you can see, I choose a shark (my favorite animal) and I choose to do it almost entirely with my fingers. Only certain details were done with a paint brush.
